SALINE TATTOO REMOVAL

WHAT IS SALINE TATTOO REMOVAL?

Saline is the most effective and safe natural pigment lightening solution that is safe for permanent makeup on the face.

Saline tattoo removal is a process by which we penetrate the skin with a saline solution (salt + purified water) to break up the tattoo pigment and pull it out of the skin. The procedure is similar to tattooing or microblading but instead of injecting ink underneath the skin, we’re doing the reverse, which is pulling it out.

At Brow Spell Studio I use LI-FT. LI-FT is currently the most effective and safest saline solution out there. I want my clients to have the best results possible, which is why I only use the highest quality ingredients and techniques. LI-FT is mainly made up of purified water, salt, lemon and orange seed extracts and so is very safe for your skin.

Clients who are interested in getting a removal MUST send clear non-filtered photos in an email, to get approved before going ahead and booking a consultation appointment.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

  1. First, I use a numbing cream to help minimize any pain.
  2. Then I sterilize the area.
  3. Using something similar to a tattoo gun, I penetrate the skin where the tattoo is and implant the saline solution into your skin.
  4. The solution then does its magic by breaking up the pigment and pulling it out to the outer surface of the skin through a process called osmosis.
  5. The extracted pigment heals into a scab and once it falls off you will find your tattoo being noticeably lighter.
  6. The healing process takes about 8-10 weeks depending on how fast your skin heals. More than one session may be required but only once the skin has completely healed.

IS SALINE TATTOO REMOVAL BETTER THAN LASER?

  • Depending on the quality of the ink that was used, it might be a lot safer to use the saline removal technique. The reason? With the saline removal procedure, the ink is pulled out of the skin into a scar that falls off vs with laser where the ink is absorbed by the body. Not to mention the fact that with saline removal, we’re working with saline aka salt and water, which is very safe by nature.

  • Depending on the color of your tattoo (especially if there’s white ink in it) the saline solution might be more effective. Why? Well because laser removal works with certain wavelengths of light, which must be matched up to the color of the tattoo so that they can be removed. If the laser doesn’t have that particular hue, it might be hard to remove the tattoo. This is always the case for white ink since it reflects all colors and lasers can’t identify or remove it.

  • Laser sessions can be significantly more expensive than saline removal with prices starting upwards at $500 per session vs. $100-$250 per saline tattoo removal session.

  • For people with darker or sensitive skin, this is a great alternative because we can prevent scarring from occurring.

HOW MANY SESSIONS WILL IT TAKE?

The amount of session varies per person and is unpredictable depending on how old the previous tattoo is, the previous artists technique, pigments/ink used, how deep the previous was, how many sessions were done on them. It can take anywhere from 1 - 6 sessions to reach the desired results. It can take more sessions with oily skin and less sessions with dry skin.

If all aftercare are followed perfectly, that can bring better results in fewer sessions.

Some may require more sessions than others.

It is critical that clients follow all aftercare instructions to prevent complications, scarring, and to achieve optimum results. I will provide you a thorough aftercare sheet to follow after our appointment. Remember results cannot be foreseen, predicted or guaranteed, but can be optimized by your care.

HOW LONG BEFORE I CAN GET ANOTHER SESSION?

Our skin takes about 5-6 weeks to fully heal completely so it is recommended to wait 8 weeks before doing another session and nothing earlier. It is important to the integrity of the skin. No exceptions.

WHAT IF I DON’T SEE ANY DIFFERENCE AFTER ONE SESSION OF REMOVAL?

There can be times where the first 2 sessions can have little difference but this doesn’t mean it is not working. This lightening solution is a long process and will require a lot of patience but it is worth it.

AM I A GOOD CANDIDATE?

YOU ARE AN IDEAL CANDIDATE IF:

  • If your previous tattoo/microblading is:

                  · too dark

                  · too thick

                  · improper placement

                  · too much asymmetry

  • You don’t have any severe skin or health conditions that may prolong healing.

YOU ARE NOT A GOOD CANDIDATE IF:

  • You have large tattoos (laser may be more suitable for you)

  •  Your skin is prone to keloid scars

  • You’re diabetic

WHAT ARE THE RISKS INVOLVED WITH SALINE TATTOO REMOVAL?

  • Scarring

  • Hyperpigmentation (is a condition in which patches of skin become darker in color than the normal surrounding skin. This darkening occurs when an excess of melanin, the brown pigment that produces normal skin color, forms deposits in the skin. It can affect all skin types with the darker skin types being more prone)

  • · Hypopigmentation (refers to patches of skin that are lighter than your overall skin tone. Hypo-pigmentation can be caused by certain chronic conditions, injury or trauma. Hypo-pigmentation can affect all skin types.)

If post-inflammatory pigmentation occurs, it is from the trauma of the needle, and not caused by the saline solution itself. PIP can occur with all forms of removal.

Fitzpatrick Skin Types 4-6 clients should come in for a patch test in an inconspicuous area, such as behind the ear. I will open the client's skin, and apply the saline solution for 10 minutes, clean the area then advise the client to come back in 6 weeks to see if any PIP (post-inflammatory pigmentation) has occurred.

These may or may not happen but it is a possibility. They can be temporary depending on each persons skin. I cannot guarantee or promise.

WHAT DOES AFTERCARE LOOK LIKE?

  • Once the procedure is completed, using the saline wound care given to you at your appointment, pat on to brows with a cotton round 3-4 times a day for the next 7 days. (Saline would care is readily available at your local pharmacy should you need more).

  • After the 7 days, do nothing keep them as dry as possible! make sure not to wet the wound in the shower. The area must be left dry for best results.

  • It is imperative that you do NOT pick or pull off the scab. Please let it fall off naturally otherwise it might not heal properly, or be done with the osmosis process of lifting the ink.

  • Often times the wound might present some lymph fluid drainage. In that case, just blot the area with a clean paper towel but make sure not to rub!

  • Make sure not to use any cosmetic products or makeup on the wound as it will delay healing and might even infect the area.

  •  No cardio or  excessive sweating for 2 weeks.

  • Avoid direct sun

  • After the scab falls off, use vitamin E oil (just 2 or 3 drops) 3-4 times a day to re-hydrate the skin until your next appointment.
